Turkey’s Welded Pipe Exports See Sharp 8.9% Drop in 2024
Turkey’s welded pipe exports fell by 8.9% year-over-year in the January–April period of 2024, according to recent customs data published via SteelOrbis. Export volumes totaled 464,017 metric tons during this window, while the export value dropped 13.4% to $395.5 million. The figures reflect softening demand across key markets and increasing international competition—both factors that have made it harder for Turkish producers to maintain prior-year momentum.
Iraq remained Turkey’s largest single export destination with 91,500 mt, despite showing a modest decline. Romania and the United States followed, although their intake levels were notably lower compared to 2023. These shifts highlight the fragile balance between regional construction activity and geopolitical or economic pressures that affect sourcing decisions in welded pipe markets.
For the welding industry, this downturn points to deeper signals. Lower pipe exports not only impact mill output but can also trickle down to fabrication shops, logistics chains, and skilled welding labor tied to export contracts.
