Techman, CSBC & AMET Team on Smart Welding Robots

Taiwan’s automation scene is set for a boost after collaborative‑robot specialist Techman Robot, state‑owned shipbuilder CSBC, and U.S. welding‑tech firm AMET signed a memorandum of understanding to co‑develop intelligent welding solutions for large vessels. The partners say the goal is a robot platform that can stand up to shipyard conditions and streamline the high‑volume welds found on bulk carriers and container ships.
Techman brings its TM‑series AI cobots—already proven on offshore wind towers and airport steelwork—while AMET offers process‑control know‑how from heavy‑industry projects in aerospace and energy. CSBC contributes real‑world weld joints and production data from its Kaohsiung yards. Together, the trio aims to tackle two chronic pain points: inconsistent manual weld quality and a global shortage of skilled welders.
Beyond individual factory gains, the project feeds into Taiwan’s wider smart‑manufacturing push, backed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
If the small‑footprint robots hit their targets—faster cycle times, lower rework, safer working envelopes—CSBC could sharpen competitiveness while opening an export channel for Techman‑AMET systems. For welders, the collaboration signals fresh demand for programming and inspection skills rather than pure arc time.
